While the great Himalayan peaks have their own individual awe and majesty, it is the people who live in their shadow that bring the mountains to life. We visit all the major Sherpa villages including Namche Bazaar, Thame, Khumjung, and beautiful Tengboche Monastery. The climax of the trek is a very early morning climb of Kala Pattar (18,450 ft.) for one of the most awesome views as the sun rises on Everest. While trekking through the Khumbu, we will have ample time to observe the Sherpa culture, visit monasteries, and walk along mountain trails lined with prayer flags and beautifully carved mani stones - learning how Buddhism influences Sherpa life. This direct route to Everest is a classic trekking experience. |

EVEREST AND GOKYO This trek does much more than visit Everest base camp. A prelude to Everest is the Gokyo valley with its turquoise blue alpine lake and high vantage points that give sensational views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu - four of the eight highest peaks on earth. From the Gokyo Valley, the trek crosses over the Cho La Pass (17,800'), an adventurous approach to the upper Khumbu Valley and Everest Base Camp. The trek visits all the major Sherpa villages including Namche Bazaar, Thame, Khumjung, and beautiful Tengboche Monastery. The climax of the trek is a very early morning climb of Kala Pattar (18,450 ft.) for one of the most awesome views as the sun rises on Everest, before returning via a different route to Lukla. While trekking we have ample time to observe the Sherpa culture, visit monasteries, and walk along mountain trails lined with prayer flags and beautifully carved mani stones - learning how Buddhism influences Sherpa life. |
