It is most necessary and compulsion to know
about the altitude sickness while doing
trekking or mountaineering in the Himalayas
or simply traveling in the high altitude.
The basic symptoms of altitude sickness
are loosing appetite, headache, nausea,
and shortness of breath, tiredness and dizziness.
The main cause of the altitude sickness
is rapid ascending, dehydration, less oxygen,
hypothermia and low pressure. There are
three types of altitude sickness:
1 Acute
mountain sickness (AMS)
when you get this sickness then you start
to feel like hangover, headache, tiredness,
nausea, loose of appetite, dizziness and
sleep disturbance.
2 High
altitude pulmonary edema
(HAPE water in the lung)
The symptoms are breathless, coughing, unusual
tired while walking, high pulse rate, blueness
of face, lip, finger nails.
3 High
altitude cerebral edema
(HACE, Water in
the head)
The symptoms are terrible headache, vomiting,
walk like a drunk, mental confusion, and
doesn't want to get bother by other people.
The basic prevention from the altitude is
never ascent in hurry, drink at least 3
liters of water in a day, use enough warm
cloth, don’t go more than 300- 400m
per day, take acclimatization day when ever
you need, don’t use alcohol during
heading up, use much more soup (most preferable
is garlic). If you get the problems then
don’t try to head up until you feel
complete better if it goes worse then get
down immediately. The main prevention from
mountain sickness is descending to lower.
