safari.jpg (36544 bytes)Royal Chitwan National Park stands today as a successful testimony of nature conservation in South Asia. This is the first National Park of Nepal established in 1973 to preserve a unique ecosystem significantly valuable to the whole world. There are three dominant vegetation types, over 50 species of mammals, more than 400 types of birds and many as 67 different types of butterflies. If spotting a tiger still remains a rare experience, other animals such as the on-horned rhinoceros, sloth bears, different types of deer, monkeys and even fresh- water dolphins are often and easily seen. The river banks are home to different alligator species. Turtles are also found here. The Park has gained much wider recognition in the world since UNESCO included this area on the list of World Heritage Site in 1984.

WHITE WATER RAFTING

One need not a professional or a thrill seeker to enjoy rafting or kayaking in Nepal. The rivers of the kingdom offers a wide range of possibilities for novices as well as professionals - ranking from class I to class VI rapids in terms of difficulty.

There quit a number of raftable rivers in Nepal. The following rivers are use for the purpose of commercial rafting : Trishuli, Kaligandaki, Bheri, Seti, Sunkoshi, Karnali, Tamakoshi and Arun.
