7 Days Helambu
Circuit:
This is 7 -
day trek that makes a circuit of the Helambu region. The easiest
starting point for this trek is Sundarijal because of its proximity
to Kathmandu. It is an easy trek to organize group. There are fewer
trekkers here than either the Everest or Annapurna regions &
good Hotels ate abundant and uncrowded.
Day 01: Kathmandu to Chisapani:-
The Helambu trek starts from Sundarijal, a small dam & hydroelectricity
station in the northeast corner of the Kathmandu valley. It begins
west of Sundarijal at the end of the
auto road, where the large water pipe crossed out of the hill .Climb
through wet, subtropical forest to an Oak Forest & on to Mulkharaka,
a scattered Tamang village. The trail again ascends through Oak
Forest to a pass, Burling Bhanjyang. After Shivapuri ridge, the
trail descends to a flat portion known as Chsapani for night halt.
Day 02: Chisapani to Kutumasang:( 2469m.)
The trail continues to drop from Chisapani, sometimes level trail
that crosses meadows & fields. Patibhanjyang is on a saddle
at the bottom of the ridge at 1770m. This is a Brahmin & Chhetri
village with a few shops & hotels. The trail heads north out
of
Patibhanjyang along the forested ridge & then descends to a
large chorten, the Tamang Village of Gul Bhanjyang. This is a delightful,
classic hill village. Again, the trail climbs the ridge from Gul
Bhanjyang to another point at 2620m. from the pass one can look
back over
Gul Bhanjyandgat the bottom. The trail then descends to Kutumasang
at 2470m.for overnight halt.
Day 03: Kutumasang to Tharepati:
The trail climbs above Kutumasang on a steep, eroded trail, mostly
through fir & rhododendron forests where there are no permanent
settlements. Then, the trail descends to Magen Goth (3150m.). It
finally reaches Tharepati for overnight stay.
Day 04: Tharepati to Melamchigaon:
Turn east from the northern end of the settlement & descend
steeply down a ravine. The vegetation changes to large firs, then
to oaks & rhodondendron. Crossing a stream on a suspension bridge,
the trail makes a short final climb to reach the prosperous Sherpa
village
Melamchigaon (2530 m.), for overnight stay.
Day 05: Melamchigaon to Tarkeghyang:
From Melamchigaon, the trail continues to descend to the Melamchi
Khola. Once across the suspension bridge, the trail begins climbing
up the other side of the valley towards Tarkeghyang. It is a long
climb to this picturesque village at 2600m., situated on a Shelf
high above the river. Tarkeghyang is the largest village in Helambu
and the
the destination for most trekkers in this region. It is a good place
to take a rest.
Day 06: Trakeghyang to Sermathang:
From Takeghyang, the trail makes a sweep around the wide valley
end between Parachin & pretty village of Gangjwal at around
2500 m. The trail drops down from the edge of the ridge but then
continues at around the same altitude along the side of the ridge
crossing a number
of streams & waterfall & landslide. Finally, it passes a
Gompa & reaches to the large village of Sermathang (2620 m.)
for overnight halt.
Day 07: Sermathang to Melamchi Bazaar:
From Sermathang the trail follows the ridge all the way down to
Melamchi, making a drop of 1790 m. After passing a large Gompa at
the trail southern end of the village the trail undulates along
the west side of the ridge passing a chorten after chorten before
dropping
down to Kakani. From Kakani the trail drops to a small village of
Dubochaur (1500m.) From here the trail continues to descend even
more steeply right down the ridge to the junction of the Indrawoti
River, & the Melamchi Khola. After crossing the suspension bridge
over the Melamchi Khola, you will reach Melamchi Bazaar. From here,
transport including buses runs reasonably frequently along the Helambu
highway to Kathmandu.
